Golden Ticket® privet is a cultivar in the olive family (Oleaceae) bred by Dr. Thomas Ranney of NCSU and is a cross between L. 'Vicaryi' and L. tschonoskii 'Little Thomas'. It is a compact variety and grows 4 to 6 feet tall and wide. Golden Ticket® privet Is tolerant of a wide range of soils from dry to moist but well-drained. It tolerates partial shade, but the best yellow color is in full sun. Only light pruning is needed. Apply a controlled-release fertilizer in early spring. It is drought-tolerant once established. The dense, glossy foliage appears golden yellow in spring and matures to chartreuse. Small clusters of white flowers appear at the stem tips in spring. While the shrub may make a few drupes, it is considered sterile. Use this privet as a informal hedge as it has better color if not heavily pruned. Also useful as a specimen or in a shrub border. Insects, Diseases, and Other Plant Problems: No significant problems. Watch for aphids, leave-mining moths, leaf spot and thrirps.
