Rene Andre is a hybrid rambler in the rose family (Rosaceae) bred by Barbier Freres & Compagnie in 1901. It was introduced in Australia in 1911. Parentage is Rosa lucieae × L'Idéal This climbing rose will grow 15-20 feet tall and 8-10 feet wide. It will flower best in full sun to partial shade and fertile, well-drained, moist soil. Prune after blooming is complete to remove any diseases, dead or crossed canes and to control size. Coppery pink semi-double flowers with a strong, sweet apple fragrance appear mostly singly in early summer. It will occasionally repeat bloom later in the season. Apricot blend semi-double flowers with pink and yellow undertones have a strong fruity fragrance. Flowers are 2-3 inches across with 20-30 petals. Bloom time is summer with an occasional repeat bloom later in the season.
