Snow Carpet rose is a minature hybrid shrub rose in the rose family (Rosaceae) . It was bred by Samuel Darragh McGredy IV and introduced to New Zealand in 1980 as 'Blanche Neige'. Parentage is Penny × Temple Bells. This small shrub grows only up to 10 inches tall but will spread up to 4 feet across. Snow Carpet prefers moist, fertile, well-drained soil but will tolerate poorer soils. It also has good disease resistance. Prune in early spring to remove dead, damaged and crossed canes. Prune 1/3 of the plant size in spring to encourage new growth. Snow Carpet has a white to white blend of mildly fragrant, small, double flowers that look great against the glossy green, dense foliage. It is spineless or nearly so. Use this small shrub in border fronts, containers, hanging baskets or mass planted as a ground cover. Insects, Diseases, and Other Plant Problems: See pests of roses to the left.
