Adpressa Coastal Redwood is a slow-growing, dwarf selection of the giant Pacific coastal redwood tree, only reaching heights of 6' tall. It may only achieve heights and widths of 4' over a 10-year period. The needles are shorter than the species and with creamy-white tips and buds. When young the needles are tightly compressed against the twigs but point forward as the branches mature. Unpruned, it will grow in a dense irregular form. However, it will tolerate pruning which also encourages additional new growth which is white. It will occasionally produce an upright stem which should be pruned off. Although more cold hardy than the species, this hardy plant can be damaged by frost when young. It is Verticillium Wilt Resistant. Plant this tree in well-drained fertile clay or sandy loam soils in full to partial sun. It isn't picky about the pH. Use as a specimen, in groups or even in a container. This group of trees is native to the Pacific coast and will probably not tolerate the heat and humidity of the east coast.
