'Scarlet Curls' willow is a deciduous tree in the willow family (Salicaceae). It has a weeping habit and grows 25 to 35 feet tall and 15 to 25 feet wide. This plant prefers full sun and moist, well-drained soil. Because the tree adapts easily to any soil type, soil pH testing and amending are not necessary. Propagate by stem cutting. It is mildly resistant to damage by deer and is drought-tolerant. 'Scarlet Curls' produces red, young wood and as the branches age, the red changes to an eye-catching golden yellow. Its twisted scarlet red stems spiral upwards. The most colorful effect can be seen after the first frost, when the scarlet becomes most intense. Providing amazing winter interest, the branches are excellent in cut flower arrangements or by themselves in vases or when dried. This fast-growing, ornamental tree is terrific for the smaller landscape. It can be used as a specimen, beside a pond or stream, or at the back of the property.
