The Steady Eddy® viburnum is a deciduous cultivar of the Asian doublefile viburnum in the Viburnaceae family bred by Tom Ranney of NCSU. It is a reliable rebloomer, growing 4 to 5 feet tall and wide. Grow Steady Eddy® viburnum in full sun to partial shade in well-drained humus-rich garden soil in full sun to partial shade. It prefers loamy to sandy-loam soils with a slightly acidic pH but is adaptable to other soil types. Provide supplemental water during dry spells. Little pruning is needed to maintain its rounded form. In late spring to early summer, abundant lacecap-type white flowers appear and then again in mid-summer, providing an extended season of blooms. The attractive leaves are dark green in summer and turn shades of burgundy in the fall, giving 3 seasons of interest. The branches grow in a horizontal growth pattern, providing an architectural feature. Use this compact viburnum as a specimen, in a hedge border, as a foundation plant or an accent.
